Stenheim Introduces Active Subwoofer at High End Munich 2025.
Swiss audio manufacturer Stenheim has announced the launch of its new active subwoofer, the Alumine Sub, at the High End Munich 2025 show. Known for its use of aluminium cabinets and high-efficiency drivers, Stenheim designed the new model primarily to complement its own Alumine loudspeakers but states that it integrates effectively with a wide range of speaker systems.
According to the company, the Alumine Sub is intended to enhance the bass performance of existing Stenheim speakers, particularly the smaller models in its Alumine line, the Two and the Two.Five. The subwoofer is said to be especially beneficial in larger listening environments, where added low-frequency output can help maintain audio balance.
While the addition of deeper bass is a typical expectation from subwoofers, Stenheim claims that the Alumine Sub also delivers “remarkable bass dynamics and texture,” which it describes as essential to creating a realistic listening experience. The device includes digital signal processing (DSP) capabilities that allow for adjustments in frequency, gain, and phase, enabling customization to suit individual room acoustics. This, the company says, offers potential benefits even for users of its higher-end speakers, such as the Alumine Three and Five.
The Alumine Sub is an active subwoofer, featuring a built-in 1200-watt amplifier. Stenheim highlights its ease of integration, with multiple connectivity options and remote configuration available via a mobile app or web interface. The sub is also positioned as a viable component for high-end home cinema installations.
Isobaric Design, Aluminum Enclosure
In terms of design, the Alumine Sub follows Stenheim’s established approach, employing an all-aluminium enclosure. The internal architecture is divided into three chambers and incorporates what the company calls an “isobaric design.” This layout uses two drivers working in tandem to maintain constant air pressure between them, which Stenheim asserts helps to reduce distortion and allows for a smaller overall cabinet size. The design also aims to deliver fast transient response and dynamic performance across the frequency spectrum.
The Alumine Sub will be demonstrated throughout the High End Munich 2025 event in Stenheim’s room at Atrium 4.2 F213 and is available for order immediately.
Stenheim, based in Vetroz, Switzerland, is known for its high-end loudspeaker systems and has built a reputation around precision engineering and minimalist design using metal enclosures. While the company emphasizes the performance enhancements of the new subwoofer, independent evaluation will be necessary to substantiate some of its performance claims.
