Musical Fidelity Unveils M6xi Integrated Amplifier with Expanded Connectivity and Power.
Musical Fidelity has announced the release of its new M6xi integrated amplifier, a model that builds on the company’s established “si” series while adding updated connectivity and system integration features.
The M6xi incorporates an analog circuit design derived from earlier models in the series, alongside a range of new digital inputs and usability enhancements. According to the manufacturer, these “quality-of-life updates” include optical, coaxial, and HDMI ARC inputs, as well as a USB-C connection. Additional integration features include an RS232 connector for custom installations, a 5 V, 2 A USB-A output for powering external streamers, and a home-theater bypass input that allows the unit to function as a dedicated power amplifier in multichannel setups.
Musical Fidelity M6xi Improvements over M6si
In terms of performance, the M6xi delivers increased output compared to its predecessor, the M6si. It is rated at 230 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 390 watts into 4 ohms. The amplifier section is derived from Musical Fidelity’s Titan platform and employs a Darlington output stage designed to reduce crossover artifacts and residual distortion. The company also cites an optimized PCB layout to minimize circuit imbalances and fully analog power supplies during operation to limit high-frequency noise and electromagnetic interference.
The preamplifier stage is designed for low noise and consistent performance across volume levels, using a Burr-Brown stepped attenuator for channel matching. The unit includes a pre-out connection for bi-amping or subwoofer integration, as well as a phono input compatible with both moving magnet and moving coil cartridges.
The M6xi is housed in a rigid aluminum chassis, with panels milled from extruded profiles. The all-metal enclosure is intended to provide shielding against electromagnetic interference while maintaining durability.
The amplifier is expected to retail for $3,799.
Jeff Coates, Musical Fidelity Brand Lead and Director of Sales at Harmonia Distribution, commented on the release, stating, “We are delighted that Musical Fidelity has introduced the new M6xi that adds important, listener-friendly features without detracting from the performance the M6si was famous for. We can’t wait for you to experience it in person!”
