DALI Introduces Basik Sub Compact Subwoofer for Music and Home Cinema
DALI has introduced the Basik Sub, a compact active subwoofer designed to add low-frequency output to bookshelf speaker systems used for music and movies. The Danish loudspeaker manufacturer positions the model as a companion to compact speakers including its Kupid and Sonik 1.
The Basik Sub uses an in-house designed 8-inch down-firing long-stroke woofer driven by a Class-D amplifier rated at 170 W RMS and 220 W peak power. According to DALI, the combination is intended to provide additional bass depth while maintaining a relatively small footprint.
DALI says the subwoofer is aimed at listeners building compact 2.1 systems, particularly where floor-standing speakers are impractical. The company also says adding a dedicated subwoofer can allow smaller main speakers to focus on higher-frequency duties, potentially producing a fuller soundstage and cleaner midrange.

This has been fuelled by small, affordable streaming amplifiers and turntables which allow consumers to create a custom hi-fi system for the price of a smartphone. Basik Sub is designed as a natural enhancement for these systems as almost all affordable streaming amplifiers and speakers feature dedicated subwoofer output and bass management features, making it possible to get the full scale and bandwith from a compact and interior friendly package” says Krestian Pedersen, Head of Product Management at DALI.
8-inch down-firing woofer
The Basik Sub’s driver features a paper-pulp membrane, an oversized ferrite magnet and a high-flux motor system. DALI says its long, vented voice coil is designed to improve cooling and reduce compression at higher listening levels.
The down-firing arrangement is intended to provide even bass distribution while giving users greater flexibility when positioning the subwoofer. Four decoupled feet raise the MDF enclosure by 25 mm, with DALI stating that the design helps reduce vibrations and supports the operation of the downward-facing driver.
Power comes from a Class-D amplifier paired with a switch-mode power supply. A built-in dual-stage limiter is included, while gain, crossover and phase controls provide adjustment for system integration.
Connectivity and colour options
The Basik Sub includes left and right line-level inputs for conventional hi-fi systems, along with a dedicated mono LFE input for home cinema equipment, AV receivers and streaming amplifiers with subwoofer outputs.
An adjustable crossover can be used to match the subwoofer to different speaker sizes and room conditions when bass management is not available elsewhere in the system. Phase adjustment covers 0–180 degrees, and a separate volume control allows the output level to be adjusted.
The compact MDF cabinet will be offered in five finishes: Solid Black, Solid White, Caramel White, Golden Yellow and Chilly Blue.

DALI lists the Basik Sub for release in October at €500 in Europe, $800 in the United States and £429 in the United Kingdom.
