50 years of sonic bliss for less

Start-ups have changed a lot over the years: where today resourceful hipsters peddle vegan bowls via subscription models, in the 1970s Günther Nubert pursued his passion for building loudspeakers in his parents’ basement.

It quickly turned out that his creations sounded so good that prospective buyers soon started flocking to him. In 1975, it therefore became apparent that a real business model had emerged, and so Nubert electronic GmbH was founded to “legalize a mess of a situation”, as Nubert himself describes it. The business expanded rapidly: the first “Nubert HiFi Studio” opened in Schwäbisch Gmünd in 1977, followed by the first branches in 1979 and 1983. With a steady stream of new loudspeaker models, including striking omnidirectional speakers such as the nuPyramide, the brand soon became known throughout Germany. In 1992, the nuForm introduced a design feature with a curved baffle to counteract diffraction problems, which was to become a characteristic feature of the manufacturer for many years and is still used today in the nuVero series, for example.

50 Years of Nubert

However, Nubert is not only known as a loudspeaker manufacturer, but above all as a pioneer of the direct sales model, which the company implemented throughout Germany from 1995 – with resounding success: in a declining market, Nubert was able to record average growth of forty percent over the following five years. By the early 2000s, the Schwäbisch Gmünd-based company was selling around 15,000 loudspeakers per year, making Nubert one of Germany’s largest hi-fi manufacturers. A newly built logistics and development center has adequately reflected this status since 2017.

Following the launch of the first amplifier developed in-house in 2005, the first active models followed in 2011. In the years that followed, the model range grew to include further product categories, above all powerful soundbars with great sound quality. With new Managing Director Daniel T. Schütze and long-standing Technical Director Markus Pedal joining the company, the manufacturer is announcing a new dual leadership for its anniversary. We congratulate them and wish them at least another 50 successful years.
