FiiO has announced the release of its latest portable digital-to-analog converter (DAC) and headphone amplifier, the QX13, positioning it as a high-performance, compact solution for high-resolution audio playback across a range of devices. The launch coincides with the growing mainstream adoption of hi-res music streaming services.

Designed for use with USB-C-equipped smartphones, laptops, and game consoles, the QX13 integrates FiiO’s 18 years of audio engineering experience into a carbon fiber-clad chassis. The company describes the device as a “flagship pocket DAC” and claims it offers “full size hi-fi performance” in a form factor suitable for on-the-go listening.

Key technical specifications include support for Master Quality Authenticated (MQA) decoding, as well as compatibility with studio-grade digital formats such as DSD512 and 768kHz / 32-bit PCM files. The device features both 3.5mm and balanced 4.4mm headphone outputs to accommodate a wide range of headphones and in-ear monitors (IEMs).

The QX13 is built around the ESS SABRE PRO ES9027PRO DAC chip, a component typically found in desktop systems. According to FiiO, the chip is paired with ultra-low-noise ES9312 voltage regulators and arranged in an eight-channel parallel configuration to ensure accurate signal processing. The company also highlights the use of four INA1620 op-amps and two OPA1692 chips, aimed at minimizing distortion and crosstalk between audio channels.

Carbon Fiber Enclosure, Optional Accessories

Visually, the QX13 features a 1.99-inch IPS display and a body made from 21 layers of carbon fiber. FiiO claims this construction offers both durability and reduced weight. An optional magnetic leather case is available, which can be paired with FiiO’s proprietary ‘estick’ battery pack for enhanced portability and extended use in what the company calls “Desktop Mode.”

This mode allows the device to draw additional power from connected USB sources, such as laptops, for improved audio performance. Users can also customize audio settings via the FiiO Control app, which provides access to a 10-band parametric equalizer and firmware updates.

FiiO states that the QX13 is compatible with its own FT7 and FX17 IEM models, though the device supports a broad array of third-party headphones as well.
