Chord Mojo 2 Update

Pentaconn and USB-C charging function

Chord Electronics updates Mojo 2, now offering a 4.4 mm Pentaconn output and USB-C charging function.

Chord Mojo 2 Update

The Chord Electronics Mojo 2 mobile DAC and headphone amplifier has received an important update. The compact device has been given two key upgrades which, according to the manufacturer, are designed to significantly improve ease of use and connectivity: a high-quality 4.4 mm Pentaconn output and a switchable USB-C charging function. Despite these innovations, the price remains unchanged at a recommended retail price of €499.

4.4 mm output expands headphone compatibility

One of the two previous 3.5 mm jack outputs has been replaced by a 4.4 mm Pentaconn socket. This means that the Mojo 2 now supports a wider range of modern high-end headphones, especially those that use balanced or particularly high-quality connectors. The second 3.5 mm output remains unchanged. According to the manufacturer, both outputs have independent volume storage, which should offer users with multiple headphones a noticeable gain in convenience.

USB-C now also usable for charging

The USB-C port has also been redesigned. In future, it will not only support data transfer, but will also serve as a charging input. Chord Electronics states that this feature is based on direct customer feedback and is intended to further simplify the everyday use of the Mojo 2. The charging function is switchable, allowing the mobile DAC to be flexibly adapted to different usage scenarios.

Proven FPGA technology remains the basis

In terms of sound processing, the Mojo 2 remains technically unchanged and continues to rely on Chord Electronics’ in-house FPGA architecture. At its heart is what the manufacturer claims to be the world’s first lossless DSP, the “UHD DSP.” This enables precise sound corrections across the entire frequency range without compromising transparency or resolution. For users, this means that the Mojo 2 can be optimally adapted to a wide variety of headphones, music genres, and applications without compromising sound quality.

Additional features and workmanship

Chord Mojo 2 Update

The brand’s signature polychromatic control spheres are still used for operation, signaling different menu states with different colors. The Mojo 2 offers a total of four digital inputs: USB-C, micro-USB for data, optical and coaxial, including dual data mode. Battery management has already been significantly improved in the original model and includes FPGA-controlled charging electronics, more than eight hours of runtime, and optimized stationary operation.

The housing is made of CNC-milled aluminum and, according to the manufacturer, is handmade in the UK. The micro-USB interface ensures that the device remains fully compatible with the Chord Poly streaming and server module.
