Pink Floyd and We Are Rewind launch limited-edition cassette player with exclusive The Dark Side of the Moon release.
We Are Rewind has announced a new collaboration with Pink Floyd, introducing a limited-edition version of its WE-001 cassette player bundled with an exclusive cassette edition of The Dark Side of the Moon. The package
The collaboration continues We Are Rewind’s series of artist-focused releases following its WE-001 cassette player, Curtis boombox and Freddie headphones. According to the manufacturer, the company has focused on artists and bands with a strong connection to cassette culture as interest in the format continues to grow.
The centrepiece of the bundle is a specially remastered version of The Dark Side of the Moon on a high-quality cassette. According to We Are Rewind, the cassette is exclusive to this limited-edition box set and will not be available separately.
The player itself is based on the existing WE-001 model, which combines a classic cassette design with contemporary hardware. According to the manufacturer, it features true hi-fi sound, a dedicated headphone amplifier designed specifically for cassette playback, an aluminium chassis, metal buttons, Bluetooth connectivity for wireless headphones and speakers, and a rechargeable battery offering up to 12 hours of playback. An optional belt clip is also available for users seeking a more traditional portable cassette experience.
Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason commented on the enduring appeal of the cassette format, saying: “I still have enormous affection for the cassette. It really was a major breakthrough – not only with the Sony Walkman but with some of the more up-market recorders. I still have my Nakamichi on the shelf and look forward to testing it with the new The Dark Side of the Moon cassette. Am I correct in assuming that the next major issue will be The Dark Side of the Moon in a large package consisting of the album divided up into 78 RPM discs?”
We Are Rewind founder and chief executive officer Romain Boudruche described the album as a milestone in recorded music. “To call The Dark Side of the Moon a classic album is an understatement. In many ways, it set the tone for what an album experience should be as a continuous piece of sonic art but also used state-of-the-art production techniques and sounds which make it a true musical experience. We’re happy that We Are Rewind can play a part in helping preserve the physical album experience,” he said.
Originally released in 1973, The Dark Side of the Moon remains one of Pink Floyd’s best-known albums and has been issued in numerous physical formats over the decades, including vinyl, compact disc and cassette. The new collaboration reflects the continuing resurgence of cassette tapes among collectors and music enthusiasts, with manufacturers increasingly combining analogue playback with modern features such as Bluetooth connectivity and rechargeable batteries.
