80 Years of Klipsch

Efficiency as a Principle

Klipsch has been building uncompromisingly efficient loudspeakers for 80 years now.

When Paul W. Klipsch developed his first loudspeaker in Arkansas in 1946, he followed an idea that was as simple as it was radical: high efficiency is the key to uncolored dynamics. The legendary Klipschorn, a fully horn-loaded corner speaker, implemented this principle without compromise – and is still built today in almost unchanged form. Not only is this one of the longest-running hi-fi products of all time, but also the foundation of a company philosophy that has shaped Klipsch for over eight decades.

In the 1950s and 1960s, the product lineup expanded to include models such as the Heresy, Cornwall, and La Scala. These later achieved cult status as part of the “Heritage” series and are still available today in updated versions.

Klipsch 80-year anniversary

As an uncompromising advocate of measurable truth, Paul W. Klipsch remained an influential figure well into old age; his famous “Bullshit” lapel pins perfectly illustrated both his unfiltered communication style and his slight eccentric streak. After his retirement and his passing in 2002, the brand continued to evolve, opening up to new markets and technologies. The introduction of Tractrix horns, the move into home theater and lifestyle products, and the expansion of the headphone and powered speaker segments marked important milestones.

In 2011, Klipsch became part of the Voxx International Group. Despite its growing product range, the brand has remained true to its core identity: high sensitivity and a lively, dynamic sound signature continue to define its current models. We congratulate Klipsch on its anniversary – a brand that, over 80 years of history, has shown that true dynamics are timeless.
